dell e1405 suped up, dream geek machine

Category: Garage Sale

Post 1 by skpoet711 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Thursday, 14-Jun-2007 22:38:42

I have a dell e1405 here I want to sell to fund my game server. It still has a year and a half of tdell phone support and onsite support. Below are the specs.

Intel duo 2 core 2.0 ghz 667 mhz fsb
2 gigs of SDRAM dual channel pc 5300 at 667 mhz
100 gig hard drive at 7200 rpm
8x dvd burner
Draft n wireless that is backwards compatible with g. If you have an n router, you can travel up to 5 x the speed of g. I've gotten a steady enough speed at 270mbps connection from it. Yet if you only have a g router, then expect it to travel about 54mbps
Built in bluetooth
Pc cillin internet security 2006, virus scanner, firewall, spyware protection
Windows xp media center

This laptop happens to have jfw 8.0 on it. It is mine and I am selling as is, meaning it is already activated. However, if you choose to reformat the system in the future, you will lose jfw. So don't go downloading worms and trogens that you can't handle.
?Tech support is provided by dell, not me, so if you elect to make this purchase, please don't come to me for tech support.
Oh, and don't call freedom scientific for jaws related problems as well, since the software is not sold as a product, the laptop is the product with jaws as happenstance. Of course unless you have a copy of jaws 8 already, than that becomes moot.

I'm asking 1500 american dollars negotiable. Serious inquiries email me at skpoet711@gmail.com. The price excludes shipping costs.
All and all, this is a screamming laptop, faster than most on the market today.

Post 2 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2007 11:02:28

Idiot, that is not faster than most laptops. I have an INTL Quad Core. You can get the same laptop tday for about 1000 US dollars, and it would be brand new. Fifteen hundred dllars for a used laptop? What idiot!!

Post 3 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2007 11:03:57

Oh, and forget my good spelling.

Post 4 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2007 11:04:59

Oh, and the brandnew machine would come with Vista.

Post 5 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2007 11:19:53

My MacBook with the exact same configuration you just described sold new for $1299, and also has a built-in iSight camera, and microphone, and comes with a remote.

Post 6 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2007 11:48:52

Well, if one does not have Jaws this is a good deal.
My friend just bought himself a Dell laptop, similar specs except 2gb of ram and 16x dvd super multi drive and Vista and 200gb hard drive, came to $1100, I've seen an Acer laptop with pretty much the same specs on buy.com )advertized last week= for $700, of course you get 0 tech support with that. All in all, if you already have Jaws I'd have to say this is $500 more than I would consider fair and honestly $650 more than I'd be willing to pay for it, between 850 and 950 I would consider including shipping.
Without Jaws I'd say $1300 with shipping would be something )mind you I am not looking for a laptop and I have Jaws but fair is fair, if Jaws is included guys this is not an entirely way off deal=.

Post 7 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Thursday, 28-Jun-2007 14:57:56

Technically, Jaws isn't included, since you don't have your own serial and installation media. It definitely would be a stellar deal if that were the case.

Post 8 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Friday, 29-Jun-2007 13:44:30

Yeah, there is no JAWS icluded. And, I bet there is a bunc of crap on th hard drive. And, there are free screen readers these days that do the same this as JAWS pretty much such as NVDA.

Post 9 by skpoet711 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Friday, 29-Jun-2007 19:52:00

1. Its been reformated to original manufactured configurations with preinstalled junk removed.
You may be downloading crap on your computers, but please don't assume that I do.
2. Quad core on a laptop? You expect a laptop to run for 7+ hours on a full charge? Anyhow, the quad core you speak of does not have independent processing abilities. Meaning, you can not isolate a core to dedicate its processes on a particular task.
3. If you idiots are such the geeks you seem to boast from your post, you would realise that if you imaged the hard drive, you don't need the serial product, as a reformat and replacement of the image would do just that in simulation. E.g. rapid restore pc, acronis... Reformat, replace, and wala, you're back to where you started upon purchase.
If you don't want to buy it, don't go and start making up things that you know nothing about. You don't know who I am, what I do, my computer knowledge, my habits and yet you go making assumptions. $1500 negotiable as I stated is fair for its potential. "a new computer would have vista on it", yes, as if vista is the definition of a new computer. ROFLMAO
Unless you're a partial sighted person, a fully sighted person, vista is great for its graphics and fansy arro blinking lights, animations, etc. If you are a total, it serves absolutely no purpose.
Vista is memory intensive both on hd and ram. Just do a simple control alt del and check your processes. *Looking at an hp dv6000 with vista* Vista is using 51% (531mb)of 1 gigs of ram. VS win xp pro sp2 using 281mb of ram.
Anyway, the key word is negotiable. If you don't want, don't hate. :P

Sorry, I was at work so could not respond fully.
I have no clue what a macbook have to do with this post and wonder how many visually impaired people even gives the integrated speech a go.
Finally, please provide me a link of your claim on having a quad core laptop. I believe such laptop processors have yet to be produced, but of course, I could be mistaken.
To the admins, please remove this post after 2 weeks, as I have already have 4 interested buyers. The highest offer is standing at $1350. So to those interested, send in your emails with offers.
Software installed:
jaws8,
Openbook 7.0
real player 10.5: rip up to 320kbps mp3s
Microsoft office 2000" ms word, excel, access, front page, powerpoint
Again, still a year and a half of dell phone support and onsight support excluding florida, alaska, hawaii, and international peeps.
I'd rather not see so much haters, but haters gonna hate, while my money awaits.

Post 11 by skpoet711 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Friday, 29-Jun-2007 21:22:52

Oops, I forgot to include that the laptop comes with all original dell cds.

Post 12 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Friday, 29-Jun-2007 22:23:02

Oh, idiot, I thought it was preimaged to the factory condition. I don't think the factory put JAWS on their laptop, you put it there. And, assume that people want to reformat and start clean, as many people do. Well, then they have lost JAWS. Besides, JAWS is a piece of crap as ascreen reade. Those who are buying that laptop are idiots, because, like I said, a laptop like that sells for $700. Now, you talk about Vista? Vista isn't the greatest of operating systems, that is true, however it is much more secure thn XP. What's more, your older programs will become nonworking in XP in a few years and a laptop like that is also a piece of junk with the quad cores out. They also have AMD's on the way that are the brothers of the INTL Quad core.

Post 13 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Friday, 29-Jun-2007 22:28:43

Oh, and idiot, I forgot. If these quad cres didn' exist, as you claim, how in the hell is it that you can write about them as if they did?

Post 14 by skpoet711 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 30-Jun-2007 13:03:17

1. You obviously don't understand the point of making your own image upon receiving the system to preserve jaws. Go to backing up 101 for dummies before you open you mouth.
2. I admit that I believe you knew what you were talking about when you claimed that you have a quad core. Upon further research, I found that I have been mistakened. Please, don't embarrass yourself further by speaking about something you don't know. If your claim was valid, I am not seeing a link to a quad core for the laptop as you so claim. They are all for workstation and servers.
Please, back up your claim, provide a link that has a laptop with my exact features for 700 dollars. 2.0 d2c? 2 gigs pc5300? draft n wireless card? 9 cell lithium battery? 100 gig hard drive at 7200 rpm, blue tooth 2.0? Its easy to say this and that without proof, until then, you're all talk. Learn to walk idiot.
Where is the link to the quad core processor for the laptop?
Where is the link for the $700 laptop with my specs?
My whole shpeel about the quad core is based on the qxe from intel, which btw are for workstations and servers, not laptops.
Vista more secure than xp??? prove it. Find me the bench marks. If this is true, why is it that in the first 2 weeks of its release there was 2 major viruses from china hitting up vista? Don't even talk about security when it comes to microsoft.
Want a secure system, get an amd with processor manipulation prevention built in the processor level, and install linux onit. :P
Software not working for xp in the future? hahah, again another ignorant line. If that is the case, why are programs this day are still working for windows 2000? Windows 98? Oh, your definition of a few years must be like what? 30 years? Xp will be here and is here to stay for a long time yet.
All this talk without evidence/sources to back your words are just childs play. Guess thats what haters essentially are, children.

Post 15 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Saturday, 30-Jun-2007 13:11:55

diot, 98 is done. There is no 98 programs being written. If you want a link, go to ompusa.com
Also, idiot, Vista has UAC which you can't uise because JAWS for crap doesn't work with it.
Primaging just means that you took an image or a copy fof something and put iton your hard drive. Now, if you preimaged it with the crap off, where idd you get theimage?

Post 16 by skpoet711 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 30-Jun-2007 13:15:28

Finally, free screen readers that do as well as jaws. Again, words without proof, show me the link buddy.
Please don't say its SAPI 4 OR 5 hahaha, the speech quality is subpar at best. Oh, so you don't misinterpret, screen readers for windows.
I will be ignoring you until you back up what you say.
If you are incapable of providing proof, I wonder if you're man enough to admit your ignorance? hmmm

Nice try buddy, That was soemthing I thought you could handle, but that link was crap at best.

Post 19 by mr. Dillon (Account disabled) on Saturday, 30-Jun-2007 13:33:04

Actually, I think you mistyped in the URL. That site was www.compusa.com, and fro there, hit on the notebooks link.
Free screen readersfor widows. Let's see. NVDA is as good as JAWS. I will admit that it lacks in som features such as navigatng in frames, however, it is a great screen reader. You want proof, go browse the Geeks board.

Post 20 by tunedtochords (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 30-Jun-2007 13:36:04

Er, JAWS does support UAC now. Just sayin'...

Post 22 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Saturday, 30-Jun-2007 16:43:47

Jeez, all this hate and insults. It must be a true pleasure doing business with you if just discussing laptop pricing produces this type of behavior. If you can get 8000 bucks or whatever for this thing, good for you (this is a figure of speech, I know you said 1350).
I agree I would prefer XP over Vista for the next year at least. Nevertheless, to me Office 2000 is too old, there is quite a bit of functionality requiring 2003, at least in my line of work (programming and automation for Office applications, amongst others). For the average user Office 2000 is probably good enough.
If you can dispense with the "idiot" and "haters", speaking of children, you write like a menstruating female teenage girl who was tjust told she couldn't go to a Britney Spears concert, tone down the insults and let the facts speak for themselves.
I'll look up the item on Buy.Com and post the link here if I have the time. If someone is interested enough they canfind it for themselves.
My opinion still stands that this laptop is not worth $1500, however if someone else thinks so and gives you the money for it, all the power to you. The Jaws that comes with it is not worth all that much, seeing as it's strictly your license and if it gets lost for whatever reason (and things do crash, I've had to reinstall Jaws 3 times in the last 3 years for various reasons) it's lost.
One could not buy this laptop and relying on the Jaws copy as something that will work for them for years. I haven't tried NVDA yet and will not comment, however I'm excited that screen readers that attempt to use O.S. functions and MSAA to extract info rather than relying on display chain or mirror drivers to get the info are becoming mainstream. This technology is more portable, more reliable and just better.
cheers
-B
